How to kill weeds quickly and organically in large grassy areas
How to kill weeds without using weedkiller is something that all gardeners have to consider.
Weeds are the bane of a gardener's life and they seem to multiply overnight. Sometimes, the easiest thing to do is reach for weed killer but that isn't always the best choice. This is happening to commercial pumpkin growers too so you are not alone. The good news is that pumpkins store well so provided you follow the advice above they’ll be fine for Halloween. As the vines die back, watch the stems. Once your pumpkin is orange and the stem is shrivelled and dry, you should pick it. It’s important to keep the stems on and not to use the stems as carrying handles. Once a stem breaks off, the pumpkins or squash won’t store well. Wash them well and “cure” them by placing them in the sun, for about 10 days to harden the skins. The important thing then is to find them somewhere cool, dark and dry as they will continue to ripen if they are in the light. They store well for up to three months.
